While Americans were busy watching the last American Football game being played, the rest of us MotoGP Geeks are ready for the MotoGP 2025 Season Preview and busy looking at lap times in Sepang and watching crazed fans in Thailand welcome the stars on two wheels as they prepared for more testing and the earlier than usual MotoGP season opener, February 28th through March 2nd at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand. The dawn of a new season always brings hope to everyone in the paddock and to fans alike. Who’s going to be the favorite to win the title? Can Martin repeat with a new manufacturer? Who’s going to be the dark horse and surprise some people? These are always the questions that pique the interests of even the most chiseled veterans. For this MotoGP 2025 Season Preview, let’s start with…

MotoGP 2025 Season Preview: Ain’t no way in hell they’re winning a damn thing!

Factory Honda has fallen on hard times for the last two to three years, but this year, look for improvements with World Champ Joan Mir returning, along with  Luca Marini. The only problem is, that everyone else improved as well. But look for Honda to score some points and get consistent top tens.

Pedro Acosta (L) and Brad Binder.

The fact that KTM is still racing at this point and developing a bike is a near miracle, they’re so in debt, that I seriously had to take a peek and make sure that I wasn’t their accountant. For the first time I can remember, Brad Binder will be playing Scottie Pippen to KTM’s version of Michael Jordan, in Pedro Acosta. Acosta looks to have all the goods to get that first MotoGP victory, but it won’t be easy. The field is stacked and he’ll find more than enough competition coming from the satellite team with Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini pulling up strong from the rear. Vinales can be the only rider to score a win with four different manufacturers and if you don’t think he’s motivated, check out his Instagram! Top Gun is in top shape.

MotoGP 2025 Season Preview: The Contenders

I’ll use the term Dark Horse lightly, but watch for Alex Marquez to be a consistent podium placer and a thorn in his brother’s side. He’s also on a Ducati and as of the publishing of this article, was a mere tenth from breaking the lap record at Sepang. Look for Alex Marquez to win races and battle at the top.

Fabio Di Giannantonio will be tough to deal with as he battles preseason injuries, but when healthy? Look for Fabio D to give the top guys hell on two wheels.

Jorge Martin, the Champ, will be riding with the number one plate, but he’s also with a new manufacturer—Aprilia—and he’s only been able to log in 13 laps on his new horse before suffering two vicious high sides, that will keep him out of the last preseason tests, with a broken foot and hand. Look for Martin in the second half of the season, because once he gets it, he’s gonna get it! Maybe too late, but we’ll see.

Fabio Quartararo. Welcome back Champ! Yamaha seems to have found their mojo again and is looking for Fabio to make a serious run for the championship.  He rode last year’s Jalopy like it was a championship contender, when in reality it was a Vespa, identifying as a MotoGP race bike. With blistering test times and a sly smile, Fabio looks to chew bubble gum and kick some ass… And I hear he’s all out of bubble gum.

MotoGP 2025 Season Preview: Factory Ducati

Let’s face it, this season should be a reality series with Factory Ducati front and center. With 10 World Championships between two riders and bad blood just beneath the surface, the jump-off is going to happen sooner than later… with the entire motorcycle racing world watching. This is must-watch viewing at its finest. The two best riders, on the two best bikes, all under one roof. Even Stevie Wonder wants to see this.

MotoGP 2025 Season Preview
Marc Marquez

You have the Stone Cold Killer Marc Marquez going for his ninth world title and you have two-time World Champion Pecco Bagnaia, who has to be feeling slighted and wants to prove he’s nobody’s second choice. Get your popcorn and try not to wake your neighbors, because MotoGP 2025 will be the best year ever.

Pecco Bagnaia

I always say, that no season, or anything for that matter, goes as planned. But barring injury and any other foreseen issues arising, I see Marc Marquez winning the Championship at the last race of the season in Valencia. At least that’s my fantasy MotoGP 2025 Season Preview scenario.

Get your sleep now, because as of February 28th, MotoGP 2025 is here and I’m all for it!

Who’s your pick for Champion?
