Equipped with the all-new liquid-cooled Revolution Max 975T engine, the Harley-Davidson Nightster turns the page for the Milwaukee manufacturer.
Sporty. Compact. Muscular. The 2022 Harley-Davidson Nightster looks every bit the part. Powered by Harley’s new 975 cc liquid-cooled Revolution Max 975T and the employment of a host of electronic rider aids, the Nightster presents itself as an exciting entry-level machine.
The 60-degree, v twin liquid-cooled Revolution Max 975T has a horsepower and torque output of 90 hp and 70 foot-pounds, respectively. The length and shape of the intake velocity stacks, the dimensions of the airbox, the dual overheads camshafts profiles, as well as the intake valves’ variable valve timing all lend to the Nighster’s overall engine performance. Also noteworthy are the internal balancers that have been tuned to minimize the infamous Harley-Davidson shake or vibration.
The Nightster’s chassis is built around the Revolution Max 975T engine, centering mass and reducing weight while enhancing overall performance and handling. The swingarm is made from welded rectangular steel tubing. The tail section is made from aluminum. The combination of a low 27.8-inch seat height, mid-foot controls and a lowrise handlebar make the Harley-Davidson Nightster a very accessible and manageable bike. Also notable is the strategically placed 3.1-gallon fuel tank, located below the seat.
The suspension assembly consists of a pair of 41 mm SHOWA dual bending valve forks on the front end and a set of dual outboard emulsion-technology shock absorbers with coil springs and a threaded collar for pre-load adjustment.
On board the Harley-Davidson Nightster, there are a number of features that riders will enjoy. Cataloged as the Rider Safety Enhancements suite, it includes an antilock braking system, traction control, drag torque slip control system and selectable ride modes (road, sport and rain).
“The Nightster is an instrument of expression and exploration, underpinned by performance. By building on the 65-year Sportster legacy, the Nightster provides a canvas for creativity and personalization, offering the ultimate platform for customization and expression for new and existing riders.” – Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, President and CEO of Harley-Davidson.
Overall, the Harley-Davidson Nightster borrows from its sibling, the Sportster but manages to designate itself in its own lane as a proper option for those new riders looking to saddle up on a Harley. Prices start at $13,499 for the Vivid Black color option and $13,899 for the Gunship Grey and Redline Red.
