The Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Team’s Alvaro Bautista secures the 2022 World Superbike Championship crown with a second-place finish at Mandalika.
Alvaro Bautista has won the 2022 World Superbike championship making him only the third rider from Talavera, Spain, behind John Kocinski and Max Biaggi, to celebrate the World Championship title both in MotoGP (2006, 125cc class) and in WorldSBK paddock.
Alvaro Bautista had an outstanding season, claiming 14 wins out of 33 races and finishing on the podium 29 times. At the end of Race 2 of the Pirelli Indonesian Round, Bautista crossed the finish line in second place. His substantial lead over Toprak Razgatlioglu and Jonathan Rea, built up over the previous 34 races secured the crown for the Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Team.
“Here we are. I am very happy. After two difficult years, many people had put their trust in me: Stefano, Serafino, Claudio, Gigi, Paolo. I had a second chance of trying again after 2019. I have tried to be the best possible rider. I have worked hard. And I think I have won against rivals like Toprak and Johnny, who set the bar high with incredible performances during the season. Now it is time to celebrate. It is time to recognize what we have achieved. I want to thank Aruba.it and Ducati, and all my team. Thank you.” – Alvaro Bautista.
