The Legacy of the Deltabox Chassis

Yamaha’s Deltabox chassis, known for its technological advancements, played a pivotal role in their Grand Prix race machines in the 1980s. Today, the Deltabox design remains a cornerstone of many Yamaha motorcycles, symbolizing exceptional rigidity and feedback.

Based on the XSR900 platform, the XSR900 DB40 Prototype celebrates 40 years of the Deltabox chassis. It features the acclaimed 890cc ‘CP3’ triple-cylinder engine, housed in the latest version of the Deltabox-style frame. The name “Deltabox” derives from the triangle-shaped structure linking the head pipe and swingarm pivot, combined with the box-shaped cross-section, providing optimal rigidity and weight distribution.
