The Insta360 Mic is a wireless microphone with a screen you can customize and a microSD slot you can choose to use. Insta360 calls it its first customizable E-Ink wireless mic with expandable storage. It sits between the flagship Mic Pro and the entry-level Mic Air, as the advanced tier of the company’s wireless microphone lineup.

The E-Ink display on the transmitter shows whatever image you upload, whether that is a channel logo, an emoji, a favorite view or the family dog. The image can change as often as you like. The microSD slot is optional, so the mic records over Bluetooth or through the receiver when it is empty, and onboard when a card is inserted.

How the Insta360 Mic Records

With a microSD card inserted, the Insta360 Mic records 32-bit float audio on the transmitter itself, as a backup to what the camera or phone captures. The format holds a far wider dynamic range than conventional recording, so audio that arrives too loud or too quiet stays free of distortion and keeps more detail for editing. That helps in unpredictable places, from a cheering sideline to a whispered aside.

A dedicated AI audio chip runs the noise reduction model, which suppresses background noise more strongly and leaves fewer audible artifacts. Two automatic gain modes handle levels on the fly: Auto helps prevent clipping, and Dynamic balances volume changes for more consistent loudness. Three voice tone presets, Regular, Rich and Bright, add brightness or a fuller sound while keeping the natural voice.

Insta360 Mic Setups and Battery Life

One receiver connects to up to four transmitters, and the system works across generations, so Mic and Mic Pro transmitters can share a receiver. Two of each can record a four-person conversation or podcast without replacing gear a creator already owns. For multicamera shoots, two transmitters can send synchronized audio to up to four receivers, so four cameras get the same clean sound.

Each transmitter runs for up to 13 hours on a charge, and the charging case extends that to up to 34 hours. That covers back-to-back shoot days without hunting for an outlet. Clipped to a shirt or jacket, the transmitter works as a wireless lavalier microphone, with no cable between the speaker and the camera.

Connecting the Insta360 Mic to Cameras and Phones

Insta360 Direct Connect pairs the transmitter over Bluetooth with the X6, X5, Luna Ultra, Luna Pro, GO Ultra and Ace Pro 2, recording 48kHz audio without a receiver. The X6 and the Luna can connect two transmitters at once, so two speakers record straight to the camera. Owners of the Insta360 X6 only need the transmitters.

For everything else, the receiver provides a traditional wireless workflow. It connects to smartphones, DSLRs and mirrorless cameras through the included USB-C smartphone adapter or a 3.5mm cable, which makes the Insta360 Mic a microphone for camera and phone setups alike.

Insta360 Mic Pricing and Availability

The set with two transmitters and one receiver is $249.99, the set with one transmitter and one receiver is $139.99, and a single transmitter is $79.99.

The lineup now covers three tiers. The Mic Air is the entry-level model, the Mic takes the middle with its E-Ink display and expandable storage, and the Mic Pro is the flagship. Because Mic and Mic Pro transmitters share receivers, a creator can add one to the other later instead of starting over.
