Iker Lecuona Extends With Aruba.it Racing Ducati Through 2028

Iker Lecuona is staying put. Aruba.it Racing – Ducati has renewed his contract through the 2027 and 2028 WorldSBK seasons, keeping him aboard the factory Ducati Panigale V4R after a genuinely strong debut season with the team.

A Breakout Debut Season Earns a Two-Year Extension

Since joining Aruba.it Racing – Ducati at the start of the 2026 season, Iker Lecuona has delivered 20 podiums and his first-ever Superbike race victory, claimed in Race 1 at Donington Park in the most recent round. That maiden win is genuinely significant on its own — the renewal isn’t a bet on potential, it’s a reward for results already delivered in year one.

“We’re really happy to continue this journey with Iker,” said Stefano Cecconi, Aruba.it Racing – Ducati Team Principal. “From the very beginning, we believed in his talent, but what truly won us over was the way he became part of the group: he adapted to the bike and to the team with surprising naturalness, always bringing the same passion, dedication and team spirit that define our garage… we have every intention of following it all the way, with the ambition to fight for the biggest result.”

Ducati Corse General Manager Luigi Dall’Igna offered a genuinely substantive technical assessment, not just a boilerplate congratulations: “In just a few months, he has shown that he can interpret the Panigale V4R at its best, quickly turning his potential into concrete results and showing constant growth from both a technical and competitive point of view… Iker has brought speed, riding sensitivity and experience, all fundamental elements in an increasingly competitive championship.” Dall’Igna went further, signaling real ambitions beyond simply competing: he expects Lecuona “can also be a leading player in the most important challenges awaiting us in the near future.”

Iker Lecuona himself was warm and personal in his own statement: “I have already said several times how my life has completely changed since I joined this great family… the most important thing now is to finish this season in the best possible way, trying to enjoy ourselves, keep improving our performance and, above all, achieve increasingly important results.”

What This Means for the Team’s Other Seat

This renewal carries real weight beyond Iker Lecuona’s own career. SBI recently reported that Alex Rins is actively targeting a WorldSBK move for 2027, naming the Aruba.it Racing Ducati seat directly as a target if Nicolò Bulega departs for MotoGP. Iker Lecuona locking in two more seasons doesn’t resolve that speculation, but it does clarify the math: if Bulega leaves, only one seat opens up, not two. The team’s other ride is now the only door left — and with Lecuona’s form this season, it’s a door worth fighting hard to get through.
