Things to ponder when considering riding gloves.
The problem that most of us that ride while strapped have to confront is the possibility of engagement. That moment when we have to use deadly force to defend ourselves. It’s a reality, and it needs to be discussed. Preparing yourself for that moment, if it ever arrives could mean the difference between… Well, you know. Staying ready so that you do not have to get ready transcends so many facts of life. When it comes to riding while strapped, staying ready is paramount.
In previous articles, we’ve addressed the topics of carry selection and points of carry. This article will focus on accessibility and functionality. If you are riding while strapped, most likely you are comfortable with your rig and set up. But have you ever asked yourself what you would do if you had to draw your firearm in the moment of engagement? If you haven’t, you should. Firearms are not trophies, no matter what social media wants you to believe. I don’t care how dressed up and customized your gun is or how your brand logo is engraved into the grip or slide or both… That shit is irrelevant. It’s not like the threat is going to be distracted by your custom piece for you get the drop on them.
What is more important than how your gun looks is that it operates and functions. What’s even more important than that? Being able to operate your firearm with confidence. In a future installment, we will discuss a few drills to practice that are specific to those that ride. An element of that discussion is the ability to operate your firearm in the moment of engagement, properly.
