The 2026 Harley-Davidson Deadwood is the new black sheep of the brand’s Cruiser portfolio, and the name is doing real historical work. Priced at $17,999 and available only in the U.S. and Canada, the Harley-Davidson Deadwood is now listed on H-D.com ahead of its public debut August 7 at the Harley-Davidson event headquarters activation during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Stripped for Performance: The Post-War Story Behind the Deadwood

The Harley-Davidson Deadwood draws directly on a specific moment in motorcycle history: post-WWII riders stripping non-essential trim off their bikes to boost performance and simplify the ride, then riding together to rallies as a way to recapture the unity they’d known in the military. In 1947, more than 400 riders converged on Sturgis, S.D. for the Black Hills Motor Classic, touring the winding roads of the Black Hills region and visiting the communities of Spearfish, Lead, and Deadwood — the town the new model is named for. Harley-Davidson frames this era explicitly as the early origin point of the bobber-style custom.

“The Deadwood motorcycle embodies that spirit of rebellion and individualism that was so prevalent following World War II, when many returning GI rode a Harley-Davidson motorcycle to experience excitement and freedom,” said Bjorn Shuster, Harley-Davidson Head of Design. “As designers, we find this era of customization and personalization, the early origins of the bobber-style custom, to be very inspirational. Our second key source of inspiration lies directly in the name Deadwood, a place linked to both the Sturgis Rally and to its own rebellious history. The graphic design for the tank art evokes a Western visual language which personifies that location.”

The styling follows through on that history with real discipline. Nearly everything is finished in deep black — powertrain, exhaust, rear fender struts, handlebar and riser, hand and foot controls, fork covers, front end, signals, and headlamp bucket. Only the lower rocker covers and pushrod tubes are chrome, a deliberate choice to highlight the V-shape of the powertrain rather than random chrome placement. Denim Black paint covers the five-gallon teardrop fuel tank and both fenders, and laced wheels with black rims reinforce the period look. A tuck-and-roll solo seat sets a laden seat height of 25.5 inches — one of the lowest of any 2026 Harley-Davidson model — with no saddlebags to interrupt the view of the exposed rear Softail chassis, built to mimic a vintage hardtail frame’s clean lines. Lowered rear suspension and a chopped, detachable windshield finish the slightly slammed profile.

Power comes from the Milwaukee-Eight 117 Classic V-Twin — 117 cubic inches (1923cc), 10.3:1 compression, 120 lb-ft of peak torque and 98 hp — tuned specifically for a flat torque curve that prioritizes rideability over chasing peak numbers, exactly the character a cruiser like this calls for. The 2-into-1 exhaust runs a single muffler with lightweight advanced acoustic material, delivering a low rumble at idle and a stronger note under acceleration. Vintage Looks, Modern Technology

Underneath the deliberately old-fashioned styling of the Harley-Davidson Deadwood, sits a genuinely comprehensive modern electronics package. The Harley-Davidson Deadwood runs the full Rider Safety Enhancements suite — Straight Line and Cornering ABS, Straight Line and Cornering Traction Control, Straight Line and Cornering Drag Torque Slip Control, and Tire Pressure Monitoring — plus three selectable ride modes: Road for daily balanced performance, Sport for a flat torque curve that pulls hard at any speed, and Rain for extra confidence in low-traction conditions, switchable via hand control even while riding.

A seven-inch LED headlamp with signature ring, auxiliary fog lamps, and a five-inch analog/digital combo instrument round out the tech, alongside two heated gear connectors under the seat and a USB-C charging port up front. The Softail chassis hides the rear suspension to preserve the hardtail look while delivering a thoroughly modern ride — a rear monoshock with under-seat hydraulic preload adjustment and 3.4 inches of travel, dual-bending valve 49mm forks, a single 300mm front disc and 292mm rear disc, and tubeless laced wheels with cast aluminum rims wrapped in Dunlop Harley-Davidson Series tires.
