Garmin has unveiled the zūmo R1 Radar, its first motorcycle-specific radar system designed to provide riders with enhanced situational awareness and road safety. This device aims to change how motorcyclists maintain situational awareness with its rearview and blind spot monitoring system.
The zūmo R1 Radar features two side-facing amber lights and an optional rear-facing red light, boosting rider visibility. Handlebar-mounted indicator lights notify the rider of approaching vehicles. This new radar system heightens safety by combining visual and audio alerts with customizable settings, giving riders the control they need to stay informed and visible on the road.
The Garmin zūmo R1 Radar offers multiple pairing options for a fully integrated riding experience. Riders can connect it to the zūmo Radar mobile app or the zūmo XT2 motorcycle navigator (sold separately) for a full-screen radar display of in-range vehicles. When paired with a compatible helmet or headset through the zūmo Radar smartphone app, the system provides audio alerts to warn of approaching vehicles.
Through the zūmo Radar app, riders can adjust light and alert settings to customize how near or far away vehicles must be to trigger a notification, adapting the system to each rider’s specific preferences and needs.
The radar system mounts discreetly above or below the license plate. The IP67 dust and water rating and the black powder-coated hardware offer durability against the elements.
The $599.99 Garmin zūmo R1 Radar is designed to fit any motorcycle without batteries or charging, making it a low-maintenance solution for safety-conscious riders.
