Yamaha announced its model lineup that is returning in 2021 (V Star 250, Bolt R-Spec, XSR700 and XSR900, Super Ténéré ES, FJR1300ES, 2021 Star Venture and the XMAX). The report concluded with a list of models that will not be returning for the new model year. 2020 is the final production year for the VMAX, WR250R and SMAX. Most notably, we say, “Farewell Yamaha YZF-R6, we knew ye well.”
YAMAHA’S 2018 “R” WORLD: ENGAGED
The company states, “Yamaha understands the iconic history of these models. Regarding the future, Yamaha is continuously looking at new ideas and concepts to support and expand the market, as well as enhance our customers’ experiences.”
Saying, “Farewell Yamaha YZF-R6” seems a cruel end to a motorcycle that has championed many victories across multiple global racing platforms. The R6 has dominated the supersport classes in MotoAmerica, WorldSBK, British Super Bikes, CCS, Wera, and many more. The sentiment is shared with the other discontinued models for their contributions to the moto-world.
But while this is the end for them, it also means that is room for what’s coming. So for now, stay tuned.
