The 2027 KTM 790 Duke Reworks Its Rider Triangle and Brings Braking In-House

The 2027 KTM 790 Duke arrives with a reworked rider triangle, all-new in-house WP radial brakes, Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV standard fitment, updated WP APEX suspension, and a 2 kg weight reduction. Same 799cc LC8c twin. Available late summer 2026.

The 2027 KTM 790 Duke arrives with a fully reworked rider triangle, an all-new in-house WP radial brake system, Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres as standard fitment, updated WP APEX suspension at both ends, and a 2 kg weight reduction over the outgoing model. The 799cc LC8c parallel-twin is carried over with a new exhaust and muffler.

The 2027 model steps into the same design language as the 990 Duke and 1390 Super Duke R EVO — redesigned headlight, larger front fairing, streamlined bodywork, reshaped fuel tank. The visual alignment brings the 790 into the full Duke family rather than sitting apart from it. New triple clamps, a new subframe, and a revised tank design sit behind the styling update and contribute directly to the chassis changes underneath.

The most substantive engineering work on the 2027 model is the rider triangle. A new handlebar with a more open angle, repositioned rider and passenger footpegs, and an improved seat change what the bike feels like from the saddle — the kind of update that doesn’t headline a spec sheet but defines whether a machine works for its rider over distance. The new triple clamps and revised tank work within the same brief. KTM’s stated aim is a more natural, connected riding position throughout.

WP Radial Brakes, Suspension, and What Else Is New

The 2027 KTM 790 Duke ships with an all-new WP radial brake system developed entirely in-house — a complete package from WP, the KTM subsidiary that already supplies forks, shocks, and steering dampers across the Duke range. Bringing braking under the same roof is a meaningful step in the platform’s hardware development. KTM specifies improved braking power with less lever effort, a smooth and linear response without a harsh initial bite, and better overall feel and control. A WP steering damper is also fitted as standard.

The WP APEX suspension is updated at both ends. Up front, a 43mm open-cartridge upside-down fork runs 150mm of travel with split-function technology and adjustable compression and rebound damping. The rear WP APEX Monotube gas-assisted shock runs 170mm of travel with adjustable rebound and preload. Both ends are tunable via a 5-click dial — accessible adjustment without requiring workshop tools. Standard tyre fitment moves to the Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV, a serious sport specification for a bike in this class. The 2027 KTM 790 Duke weighs 2 kg less than the outgoing model — a useful number on a machine already valued for its agility.

The 2027 KTM 790 Duke is not a power update. KTM has carried over the engine without leading with horsepower figures, which is itself editorial information: the brief here was chassis, feel, and braking rather than output. Reworked geometry, braking brought in-house, tyres upgraded at the OEM level, and 2 kg trimmed from the kerb weight. For the middleweight naked class, that kind of targeted engineering tends to deliver more on the road than another 10 horsepower would.
