The 2026 BMW R 1300 R arrives with lighter components, updated geometry, and fresh electronics to reimagine the roadster ideology. A new boxer motor delivers proper torque and horsepower. Comfort features such as heated seats and an adjustable handlebar, shift-assist capabilities, and rider electronic aids all mark this model as an evolutionary upgrade from previous model years.

The new look of the BMW R 1300 R features an aluminum 4.5-gallon fuel tank, a crisp back end, LED lighting throughout the bike, optional Headlight Pro for cornering illumination, and refined body lines. Paired with a range of seat heights and an array of optional luggage, screens, and engine spoilers, the BMW R 1300 R transforms from a tourer to a daily commuter and even a track machine.

2026 BMW R 1300 R Engines and Features

The 2026 BMW R 1300 R updates the roadster ethos for the BMW boxer-engine lineup with a 1,300 cc liquid-cooled motor that compresses fuel-air mixtures at a 13.3:1 ratio, producing 145 hp at 7,750 rpm and 110-foot pounds of torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine features BMW’s ShiftCam technology, air/liquid cooling, and a new 6-speed gearbox incorporated into the engine housing.

The chassis of the BMW R 1300 R sports a new steel main frame with an aluminum rear section, shaving weight and concentrating mass toward the center of gravity. Up front, a set of 47 mm upside-down telescopic fork partners with EVO Paralever II rear suspension. Dynamic ESA is standard, and if you’re looking for even more control, optional DSA (Dynamic Suspension Adjustment) can electronically fine-tune spring rate and damping. An optional sport suspension exclusive to the Style Performance variant offers additional ground clearance and a firmer setup.

New lighter cast aluminum wheels reduce rotational mass by three pounds, contributing to sharper handling and more responsive cornering. Braking is handled by a pair of 310 mm discs on the front end mated to 4-piston radially mounted floating brake calipers. A single 285 mm rotor gripped by a 2-piston floating caliper. BMW’s Integral ABS Pro is standard. Braking on the 2026 BMW R 1300 R is further enhanced by Dynamic Brake Control and the new Sport Brake system (offered only on the Style Performance model).

BMW has reworked the R 1300 R’s ergonomics as the seating triangle moves you closer to the front end of the motorcycle while rotating handlebar clamps let you fine-tune the riding position for a sportier stance. A 6.5-inch TFT display handles connectivity and vehicle information. Take note of the GPS Prep that allows you you mount your GPS device or smartphone via a cradle mount.

2026 BMW R 1300 R introduces Automatic Shift Assistant

Notable features include ASA (Automatic Shift Assistant) for automated clutch and gear changes. The ASA enhances the ride by automating clutch operation and gear changes for improved comfort while retaining the thrill of shifting. This system features electromechanical actuators that eliminate the need for a clutch lever, making starts, stops, and maneuvers easier for riders, similar to Honda’s E-Clutch system.

You can switch between manual shifting in “M” mode or shifting automatically in “D” mode. The ASA also offers tailored shifting profiles for different riding modes, enhancing safety when used alongside features like Cruise Control or Frontal Collision Warning.

There are three standard riding modes—RAIN, ROAD, and ECO—and includes Dynamic Traction Control and MSR Engine Drag Torque Control as standard. Optional Riding Modes Pro adds DYNAMIC and DYNAMIC PRO, alongside adjustable slip settings and advanced traction enhancements further the customization profile of the bike.

Presented in four style options (Snapper Rocks Blue, Style Exclusive, Option 719 Kilauea, and Style Performance), the 2026 BMW R 1300 R has a starting MSRP of $16,595, plus destination and is expected to hit the dealership in late 2025.
