The BMW F 900 models, the sporty F 900 R, and the sport-touring F 900 XR receive considerable updates for the 2025 model year. Both bikes have dropped over six pounds compared to the previous models. The BMW F 900 R offers improved ergos with a sportier riding position. The handlebars are now positioned further forward, and the footrests have been moved back, which optimizes control and creates a more aggressive, front-leaning stance. On the other hand, the BMW F 900 XR features enhanced aerodynamics and comes with standard hand protectors. The redesigned front fairing makes longer rides more comfortable with reduced wind stress. An optional high windshield is also available.

Under the tank of both bikes waits an 895 cc water-cooled two-cylinder inline engine with an output of 105 horses and 68.6 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is a 6-speed helical gearbox with an anti-hopping clutch. BMW notes a top speed of 124 plus and an acceleration rate of 0 to 62 mph at 3.7 seconds for the F 900 R and 3.6 seconds for the F 900 XR.

A new set of weight-saving adjustable 43mm front forks, borrowed from the BMW S 1000 R, handle front-end suspension detail while a single adjustable shock mitigates the back end. Also on loan from the S 1000 R are the 3.5 x 17″ front and 5.5 x 17″ rear cast aluminum wheels mated to 120/70 ZR 17 and 180/55 ZR 17 tires.

Braking is handled by a pair of 320 mm floating front rotors and a single 265 mm single rear rotor. Twin 4-piston radial calipers grip the front rotors while the rear is grabbed by a single-piston floating caliper. The clutch and brake levers are adjustable.

The F 900 R and F 900 XR come with two standard riding modes: Rain and Road, plus an optional Dynamic mode. Both models feature Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) as standard, enhancing safety by monitoring wheel speeds and lean angles. Note that DTC can be deactivated for riding on track. MSR (Engine Drag Torque Control) is standard on both models.

The F 900 R and F 900 XR now feature BMW Motorrad’s ABS Pro, enhancing safety during cornering by allowing ABS-assisted braking at lean angles. This system prevents wheel lock and maintains stability during hasty stops. With early activation, ABS Pro improves braking stability in Rain and Road modes, while Dynamic mode focuses on maximum deceleration, minimizing rear wheel lift. The bikes also include Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), which limits throttle opening during significant braking to prevent unintentional acceleration, enhancing stability and reducing braking distance.

The F 900 XR comes with Headlight Pro, which includes an adaptive headlight, a USB-C charging port (2.4 A), and heated grips. The adaptive headlight triggers additional LEDs when leaning more than 10 degrees at speeds over 6 mph, improving visibility while riding at night. Both bikes feature a battery that is 1.7 pounds lighter than prior, a redesigned rear end with integrated turn indicator lights, and a unified number plate holder.
