Yamaha has unveiled its 2025 Yamaha YZF-R9, designed to enhance the capability and confidence of riders by combining track-capable prowess with street-friendly ergonomics and advanced rider aids.
Yamaha’s CP3 890cc liquid-cooled three-cylinder engine breathes life into the R9 with a unique ECU tune and optimized gear ratios. A tuned airbox amplifies the induction sound, which provides a symphony of adrenaline combined with the CP3’s distinctive crossplane triple exhaust note.
The R9’s chassis features a gravity-cast Deltabox frame—the lightest aluminum frame ever offered on a Yamaha Supersport model, harmonized with fully adjustable KYB suspension for light, agile handling. The bike has a wet weight of 430 pounds. Braking performance is equally impressive, featuring top shelf Brembo Stylema monoblock front brake calipers paired with a Brembo radial master cylinder, large 320mm dual front discs, and stainless steel brake lines. The R9 also offers the option to turn the rear ABS off for track riding.
The YZF-R9 includes MotoGP-inspired winglets that add downforce for a stable, planted front-end feel while keeping drag to a minimum. Yamaha notes that the R9, along with the 2025 R-series, yields the most aerodynamic model it has created.
The riding position of the YZF-R9 offers a short reach to the clip-ons, ample legroom, and a low seat height of 32.7 inches for comfort across various riding scenarios.
You can select your display preference on the five-inch full-color TFT display between four separate street themes or a dedicated track theme. Display themes, vehicle data, connectivity functions, and the R9’s electronic suite are navigated through Yamaha’s latest integrated handlebar switches.
The 2025 Yamaha YZF-R9 offers a premium electronics package that includes the much-appreciated third-generation quick-shifter, assist and slipper clutch, cruise control, Yamaha’s Ride Control (YRC) with preset and customizable settings, Yamaha Variable Speed Limiter (YVSL), full LED lighting, and intuitive new switchgear.
The R9’s six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) provides a nine-mode Traction Control System (TCS), a three-mode Slide Control System (SCS), a three-mode Lift Control System (LIF), and a Brake Control System (BC). You can adjust the levels of intervention or deactivate them.
Yamaha also includes smartphone connectivity via their free Y-Connect app. Riders can receive message notifications and calls and listen to music via Bluetooth. Full turn-by-turn navigation is available through the Garmin StreetCross app.
Available in Team Yamaha Blue, Matte Raven Black, or Intensity White/Redline, the 2025 Yamaha YZF-R9 will begin arriving at dealers in March with an MSRP of $12,499.
