In a statement from the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Board of Directors, they have decided to exclude motorcycle racing from the 2020 event. While the decision has not been made permanent, it is sure to have a significant impact on the event sponsors, participants as well as the motorcycle community and industry at large. The annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb has been an iconic staple in the list of must attend race events for the last 29 years.
The board of directors stated their reason for the exclusion in 2020, “to determine the long-term viability of the motorcycle program… So that race organizers can gather data and analytics to review more thoroughly the impact on the overall event in the absence of this program.”
This past June, tragedy struck the event when 4-time Champion Carlin Dunne succumbed to injuries as a result of a fatal accident while he was competing in the 2019 event. A GoFundMe account has been set up to support Carlin Dunne’s mother, Romie Gallardo, during this time difficult time of loss.
