Celebrated as the gateway into Yamaha’s revered R World, the 2025 Yamaha YZF-R3 has been a favorite among riders for its high-revving 321cc engine, lightweight chassis, and real-world practicality. The new YZF-R3 receives an extensive list of critical updates designed to enhance performance, usefulness, and style. Drawing inspiration from the YZR-M1, the 2025 YZF-R3 features new-generation R-Series styling. Its aggressive front fairing, sleek side panels and sporty tail section with the signature R-series tail wing make it recognizable. The modern LED lighting adds to its fresh appearance, featuring a new single projector-type headlight flanked by aggressive four-element position lights and a new LED taillight and turn signals.
A 321cc liquid-cooled, inline two-cylinder engine powers the 2025 Yamaha YZF-R3. With lightweight forged aluminum pistons and unique DiASil (high-silicon aluminum alloy) cylinders featuring an offset design, the engine delivers smooth and responsive power across the rev range. The modern fuel injection system and compact, mass-centralized exhaust contribute to its impressive fuel efficiency of 56 mpg.
The 2025’s Assist & Slipper (A&S) clutch is a first for R3. This clutch system utilizes an assist cam and slipper cam to inhibit excessive engine braking, providing a smooth, easy-to-handle feeling during downshifts. It also reduces the effort required to pull the clutch lever, resulting in less hand fatigue during long rides.
The 2025 YZF-R3 now features smartphone connectivity through Yamaha Motorcycle Connect (Y-Connect). Working in conjunction with the free Y-Connect app, available for iOS and Android, riders can connect their smartphones directly to the motorcycle. This connectivity allows viewing incoming calls, emails, and notifications on the new LCD dash. Additional functions include monitoring and notifying the rider or a designated contact of any technical issues with the motorcycle and the ability to track and record essential ride data such as distance covered, fuel consumption, acceleration, and motorcycle location.
The suspension system includes inverted KYB front forks and a KYB Monocross shock. The slim, compact, lightweight chassis offers near 50/50 weight distribution, contributing to the bike’s nimble and agile character. Refined ergonomics with raised clip-ons and a low seat height provide a sporty yet comfortable riding position. A narrower seat and slimmer side covers enhance the rider’s foot reach to the ground without compromising the relaxed riding position that the R3 is known for.
The all-new LCD instrument cluster displays connected smartphone information and provides vital vehicle data at a glance. A new USB-A socket is located next to the display, offering easy access to power for phone charging or heated gear.
Available in three color options—Team Yamaha Blue, Matte Stealth Black, and Lunar White/Nebular Blue—the new 2025 Yamaha YZF-R3 will begin arriving at dealers in December, with an MSRP of $5,499.
