The 2025 Kawasaki Z900 is back for the 2025 model lineup with many updates in the performance, tech, and overall rider experience departments. Beginning with what’s under the tank… the new Z900 harbors a 948cc liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine that features bore and stroke dimensions of 73.4 x 56.0 mm. The engine’s downdraft throttle bodies optimize air intake for maximum performance, while Electronic Throttle Valves ensure smooth response and improved fuel efficiency. With the addition of an up-and-down Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS) and electronic cruise control, you can enjoy seamless gear transitions and comfortable highway runs.
An updated ECU contributes to a 16% improvement in fuel economy, reducing CO2 emissions from 132 g/km to 117 g/km. Lightweight pistons, a die-cast cylinder, and a secondary balancer work harmoniously to deliver smoother operation and a more compact design.
Central to the 2025 Kawasaki Z900’s electronics suite is the Kawasaki Cornering Management Function (KCMF), which utilizes a compact Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) to monitor real-time chassis dynamics. By adjusting brake force and engine power throughout a corner, KCMF ensures smooth transitions and optimal traction.
The Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC) system offers three modes to accommodate various riding conditions. Mode 1 prioritizes acceleration with minimal intrusion, while Mode 2 balances acceleration and rider reassurance. Mode 3, on the other hand, is designed to maximize grip on low-traction surfaces. You also have the option to switch off the system for complete manual control. Additionally, the IMU-enhanced ABS manages brake pressure during heavy braking to prevent rear-wheel lift.
The Power Mode selection allows you to choose between full and low power modes. Low power mode limits output to approximately 75%, providing a gentler throttle response ideal for urban environments or slippery conditions. Integrated Riding Modes—including Sport, Road, Rain, and a customizable Rider mode—are linked to the KTRC and Power Modes. This integration enables quick adjustments to suit changing road conditions or personal preferences, accessible via a handlebar-mounted switch and button cluster.
The new 5-inch full-color TFT display serves as the information hub for the Z900, offering a larger and more vibrant screen compared to previous models, ensuring excellent visibility in various lighting conditions. You can choose between two display types: Type 1 features a bar-style tachometer alongside vehicle information or navigation, while Type 2 showcases a hexagonal tachometer with a lean angle indicator. Essential functions include a digital speedometer, gear position indicator, fuel gauge, trip meters, temperature readings, and more. Additionally, the display supports Kawasaki’s RIDEOLOGY THE APP, which provides voice command functionality and Kawasaki’s first-ever turn-by-turn navigation system.
The lightweight trellis frame, crafted from high-tensile steel, provides the 2025 Kawasaki Z900 with exceptional agility and nimble handling. The engine is a stressed member, enhancing rigidity while keeping the overall weight down. An updated gusset improves maneuverability, and the aluminum swing arm reduces unsprung mass for a more responsive ride. Suspension duties are handled by 41 mm inverted front forks with adjustable rebound damping and spring preload. The Horizontal Back-Link rear suspension centralizes mass and is shielded from exhaust heat, offering adjustable rebound and preload settings for a tailored riding experience.
ABS Braking performance features dual 300 mm front disc brakes with new four-piston calipers for improved feel and control. A 250 mm rear disc brake complements the front. The Z900 rolls on lightweight five-spoke wheels wrapped in new Dunlop Sportmax Q5A tires.
The 760 mm tapered aluminum handlebar allows for an active riding posture, and the controls have been repositioned to the handlebars for enhanced accessibility. The seat has been updated with thicker urethane padding in the rear portion, enhancing long-distance comfort. Its slim front and wider rear design, along with rounded edges, facilitate easier ground reach and improved leg comfort. Adjustable levers accommodate various hand sizes, and rubber-mounted foot pegs minimize vibrations.
In the style department, the 2025 Kawasaki Z900 continues the legacy of the Sugomi design philosophy, characterized by its sharp styling, crouching stance, and aggressive presence. The low headlamp cowl features a triple LED headlight setup that offers impressive illumination. Brushed aluminum shrouds branded with the “Z” logo and minimized plastics contribute to a premium ethos. The tail cowl is shorter, creating a floating taillight effect with an LED design.
Kawasaki offers the Z900 SE ABS model for those that want to take it to the next level. The SE includes an Öhlins S46 rear shock, Brembo front brake components identical to those on the Z H2, distinctive colors and graphics and a two-tone seat with a leather-like finish and decorative stitching. Additionally, a USB Type-C outlet integrated into the front cowl allows for charging on the go.
The 2025 Kawasaki Z900 will be available on the back end of 2025, arriving in several color options, including Metallic Spark Black, Metallic Carbon Black, and Ebony with an MSRP of $9,99.
