The French rider is replaced by Mika Kallio for the remainder of the 2019 season.
KTM has announced they have parted ways with Johann Zarco, ahead of schedule. Although KTM announced that Zarco would not be part of their 2020 lineup, Zarco was slated to complete the 2019 season. In a statement issued by KTM, Pit Beirer (KTM Motorsport Director) stated: “We have to make decisions to ensure that we use our resources in the best possible way and are currently in a positive direction with our MotoGP structure.”
Zarco is still under contract with KTM until the end of the season but will not have any riding obligations. His seat for the rest of the year has been offered and accepted by Finnish rider, Mika Kallio. Kallio rode the KTM in its debut MotoGP season, and has performed duties as a test rider and has several wild card races under his belt.
Pit continued, “We firmly believe that Mika can help us in this stage thanks to his knowledge and background. It is paramount that we verify our testing result in real race conditions to start our 2020 season in the best position.”
