2024 marks the 75th anniversary of MotoGP, with celebrations commencing at the Monster Energy British Grand Prix at the Silverstone Circuit, where on this unique occasion, teams and riders will compete with special retro one-off liveries. Fans in attendance received the first looks during the Day of Champions pitlane walk as the bikes were revealed.
All 11 MotoGP teams drew inspiration for their retro-styled liveries, many from yesteryear, while others were more recent in concept.
World Champion Pecco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini will wear a design inspired by the Ducati Desmosedici GP3 motorcycles ridden by Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss during Ducati’s first premier class campaign in 2003 for the Ducati Lenovo Team.
Prima Pramac Racing’s livery pays tribute to Angel Nieto’s 1983 125cc World Championship-winning design, honoring the legendary Spaniard and the team’s Sporting Director, Fonsi Nieto’s uncle.
Gresini Racing is bringing back the ‘il Tricolore’ design, which Fausto Gresini used during his 1985 and 1987 125cc World Championship wins. Marc and Alex Marquez are now using it.
Aprilia’s livery takes inspiration from the RSV 250 that Max Biaggi rode to a trio of 250cc titles in the mid-90s, celebrating their storied history in the “junior categories.”
Trackhouse Racing’s inaugural Grand Prix season drew inspiration from American motorcycle racing legends Kevin Schwantz, Kenny Roberts, Wayne Rainey, and Freddie Spencer, and its design honored these icons.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s livery borrows from the KTM LC4, which Wolfgang Felber rode to victory in the German ‘Sound of Singles’ Championship in 1989.
Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 will debut a special livery at the British Grand Prix to mark the 75th anniversary.
Monster Energy Yamaha’s livery features the iconic red and white design first introduced in 1964 and popularized in the 1970s by riders like Jarno Saarinen and Giacomo Agostini. Repsol Honda Team’s vintage livery pays homage to Freddie Spencer’s 1983 500cc World Championship win, a historic victory that remains one of Grand Prix’s most memorable title fights.
Each of the liveries, steeped in history, offers a piece of MotoGP’s rich heritage to the present, ensuring that the 75th anniversary is marked by a fitting tribute to the legends and moments that have shaped the sport. As the riders take to the track at Silverstone, they’ll do so with a piece of history on their bikes, making this anniversary celebration a true milestone.
