BMW F 450 GS: A True GS DNA in a New Displacement

The 2027 BMW F 450 GS lands as BMW Motorrad’s bold entrance into the competitive 400–500cc adventure segment. Don’t let the displacement fool you—this isn’t just a smaller GS. The BMW F 450 GS is a purpose-built machine, engineered from the ground up with its own completely redesigned engine, chassis, and ergonomic approach. It proudly carries the GS badge into new territory, offering big-bike feel, premium tech, and versatile performance at a middleweight scale.

Under the tank is an all-new 420cc parallel-twin motor that churns out 48 hp at 8,750 rpm and 32 lb-ft of torque at 6,750 rpm. The 135-degree crankpin offset delivers a growly exhaust note and smooth character, while the counterbalance shaft and Euro 5+ compliance keep things civilized. Whether you’re cutting through urban traffic or hammering fire roads, the BMW F 450 GS is built to keep the fun dialed in.

What truly sets it apart? The new Easy Ride Clutch (ERC) is a centrifugal clutch that lets you start and shift without touching the lever. Paired with Gear Shift Assist Pro on the GS Trophy variant, this setup gives you the option of fully clutchless riding, without sacrificing the manual feel when you want it. The result is intuitive, confidence-inspiring control, on-road or off.

BMW F 450 GS: Performance, Precision, and Proven Tech

BMW engineered the BMW F 450 GS around a high-rigidity tubular steel frame, using the engine as a stressed member for optimum stiffness and compact geometry. The 57.7-inch wheelbase, 28.1-degree rake, and 4.5-inch trail make for agile yet stable handling across all terrains. Suspension is handled by a 43mm KYB upside-down fork up front and a rear KYB spring strut with BMW’s unique travel-dependent damping system (WAD). Both ends offer a generous 7.1 inches of travel, fully adjustable on the GS Trophy model for rebound and preload, making this one of the most dialed-in suspensions in its class.

Braking is handled by a 310mm front disc with a Brembo 4-piston caliper and a 240mm rear disc, both with ABS Pro standard—lean-angle optimized, of course. Dynamic Brake Control, DTC (Dynamic Traction Control), and MSR (Engine Drag Torque Control) all come along for the ride. It’s the kind of safety suite that was once exclusive to BMW’s flagship ADV bikes, now fully baked into a lightweight platform.

You also get three riding modes—Rain, Road, and Enduro—standard. The GS Trophy variant unlocks “Enduro Pro,” giving advanced riders the ability to customize throttle response, traction control, and ABS settings for off-road use. Wheelie control and rear ABS can be disabled here for true trail shredding.

BMW F 450 GS: Comfort, Connectivity, and Customization

One glance confirms it—the BMW F 450 GS is undeniably a GS. That classic flyline, the beaked front fender, the signature LED “X” headlight—this bike wears its heritage proudly. Yet it’s scaled and styled with modern ADV riders in mind. The ergonomic triangle has been tuned for both seated and standing positions, and the two-piece seat offers 33.3 inches of height, with optional lower (32.7″) and higher (34.0″) configurations available.

Riders get the full BMW Connectivity suite via a sharp 6.5-inch TFT display, controlled through BMW’s Multi-Controller dial. Music, calls, and turn-by-turn nav via the Connected app? Check. USB-C charging up front? Also check. This dash is future-ready, while still focused on the ride.

And yes, this GS is built for the journey. BMW has loaded the F 450 GS with practical options, from multiple windshield heights and protective accessories to a full line of waterproof luggage, crash protection, and even Akrapovič exhaust options. Whether you’re packing for a weekend escape or outfitting for a month-long overland, the BMW F 450 GS adapts to your mission.

The 2027 BMW F 450 GS is expected to hit U.S. dealerships in late Q4 2026 or early Q1 2027 in the GS Trophy trim. Pricing will be announced closer to launch. If this is BMW’s idea of entry-level adventure, then the middleweight ADV segment just got its bar raised—again.
