2027 KTM 890 ADVENTURE R RALLY: First Look

The 2027 KTM 890 ADVENTURE R RALLY brings WP PRO race suspension, Rally Mode, Akrapovič exhaust, and Red Bull Factory Racing DNA to a production bike.

KTM didn’t build the KTM 890 ADVENTURE R RALLY for riders who want to tour comfortably on a gravel road. They built it for riders who want factory rally DNA — the real stuff, straight from the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing program — in a production motorcycle they can walk into a dealership and buy. The 2027 edition sharpens that mission further, and for #SBINATION riders who’ve been watching the Dakar results and wondering what it would feel like to charge across the same terrain, this is the closest answer KTM has ever put on a showroom floor.

2027 KTM 890 ADVENTURE R RALLY Suspension: Factory Race Tech, Not Road Adaptations

One of the main points on the 2027 KTM 890 ADVENTURE R RALLY is the suspension, and it deserves the attention it gets. Up front is the WP XPLOR PRO 7548 fork — a 48mm unit using Cone Valve technology derived from KTM’s WP Factory Racing competition programs. This is not road-spec hardware adapted for the dirt. It is a genuine race fork fitted to a production bike, delivering 270mm of travel with damping performance that holds up at speed across the roughest terrain you can find.

Out back, the WP XPLOR PRO 6746 monoshock runs KTM’s Progressive Damping System, also with 270mm of travel, tuned to match the front’s capability and planted feel. The combination gives the bike exceptional bottoming resistance, superior front-end confidence, and a controlled ride character whether you’re loaded with luggage or pushing the pace on open desert.

The chassis it’s all hanging off is a CroMoly tubular steel frame with a steel trellis subframe — proven geometry with a 26.2° steering head angle, 1,535mm wheelbase, and 303mm of ground clearance. Seat height is 910mm, which is tall but appropriate for the platform. This bike is designed to be stood up on the pegs, and the wider rally footpegs from KTM Factory Racing make that stance feel natural and planted for hours at a stretch. The aluminum tapered handlebar (26/22mm) keeps the cockpit aggressive without being uncomfortable on long days.

KTM 890 ADVENTURE R RALLY Engine: 889cc Parallel Twin with Rally-Spec Breathing

Power comes from KTM’s 889cc parallel twin — a DOHC, liquid-cooled four-stroke fed by a Dell’Orto 46mm throttle body and managed by a Bosch EMS with ride-by-wire. The engine runs dual balancer shafts for smoothness and backs it up with a PASC slipper clutch and a six-speed gearbox. These are not the numbers KTM publishes for the standard 890 Adventure R. This is the same architecture worked to breathe better, rev harder, and pull stronger in the kind of conditions where the KTM 890 ADVENTURE R RALLY is meant to operate.

The Akrapovič Slip-on Line titanium silencer is standard equipment — not an accessory, not an upgrade. It delivers the rally exhaust note and saves 35% in weight over the stock unit. Combined with the dedicated airbox and intake setup, the result is an engine that sounds and responds the way rally machinery should. KTM fits oversized water and oil radiators to keep temperatures in check under sustained hard use, and the two-pump lubrication system keeps oil moving where it needs to be when the bike is working hard at extreme angles.

KTM 890 ADVENTURE R RALLY Electronics: Rally Mode, Quickshifter, and Full Navigation

The standard TECH PACK on the 2027 KTM 890 ADVENTURE R RALLY includes Rally Mode alongside Street, Offroad, and Rain — four distinct maps that genuinely change how the motorcycle behaves. Rally Mode sharpens throttle response, loosens traction control intervention, and puts control back in the rider’s hands for the kind of aggressive off-piste riding the bike is built for.

Motor Slip Regulation is in there too, managing rear wheel behavior on downshifts in the dirt with a subtlety that took factory race programs years to refine. Quickshifter+ handles clutchless upshifts, and Offroad ABS rounds out a suite of electronics that is as complete as anything in the adventure segment. Cruise Control adds the finishing touch for the stretches between the rough stuff.

The 5-inch TFT display pairs with a Connectivity Unit for KTMconnect Bluetooth integration and TURN-BY-TURN+ navigation — meaning you can plan a route, push it to the bike, and follow it across terrain where your phone has no signal. The steering damper is fitted as standard and calibrated to feel as natural as possible at speed, absorbing the kind of front-end feedback that unsettles riders on fast desert tracks without numbing the connection between rider and wheel. KTM also fits an aluminum master cylinder guard and engine protection grill as standard, acknowledging that bikes like this get used the way they were intended.

The rolling package on the 2027 KTM 890 ADVENTURE R RALLY is built to take punishment. Heavy-duty DID spoked wheels — 2.15×21″ front, 4.00×18″ rear, run with tubes — are shod with MITAS tires (90/90-21″ front, 150/70-18″ rear) spec’d for offroad use. The Supersprox-Stealth rear sprocket is fitted as standard, as are carbon tank guards that protect the fuel cell and underscore the rally pedigree of the build.

The new Rally CTG two-color fuel tank carries 20 liters (5.3 gallons), enough range to make the distances between fuel stops in remote terrain manageable. Dry weight sits at 200kg (440.9lb) — competitive for the segment and its capability level.

KTM’s commitment to putting race technology into production bikes is consistent across the lineup, and the 890 Adventure R Rally represents that philosophy at its most complete.
